Miners Sour Senior Day

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University football team dropped its last home contest of the 2023 campaign against Missouri S&T on Saturday (Nov. 4). Despite a few opportunities to add a touchdown to the scoreboard, the Hawks fell 21-14.

The visiting Miners got on the board late in the first quarter, leaving little time for the Hawks to tie it up before transitioning to the second quarter. Key rushes from Teon Dollard and Jadon Washington got the Hawks into scoring position in the second, with Washington pushing through the defense to get the ball in the end zone. A penalty during the scoring play was assessed on the kickoff, where Michael Owens sent a 55-yard kick-off into the end zone. The Miners scored another touchdown in the next play, putting the Hawks down seven heading into the second half.

The Hawks found some excitement on the defensive end in the third quarter. Senior David Tabakovic forced a fumble by the Miners and Cole Schnettgoecke secured it, transitioning to a Hawks drive at the midline. Senior Peyton Plunkett recovered a fumble on a fourth down in the next drive, giving the Hawks a great start at the Missouri 47-yard line. Brandon Granger got some action late in the third quarter with a diving interception.

The Hawks made it to the house one more time in the fourth quarter on a long toss by quarterback Ike Wiley, finding Trevon Rhodes for a 60-yard touchdown pass. The Hawks
missed an opportunity to tie on their last drive when Wiley tried a fourth down toss to Hans Wisnewski, missing just over the tight end's hands.

The Hawks honored 14 seniors prior to the game for their dedication and service to Quincy Football. The seniors honored were Peyton Plunkett, Lazerick Hill, Marlin Washington, Kenshawn Bragg, Trevon RhodesJalen Lawrence, Demari Wilson, Brian Tape, Jackson Connell, David Tabakovic, Nathaniel Roberts, Dale Dambek, Remington Buehler, and Cole Schnettgoecke.

The Hawks conclude the 2023 season in Fayette, Iowa, facing the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
