Hawks Outdone by LSSU

KALAMAZOO, Mi. - The Quincy University men's basketball team completed its short stay in the Great Lakes State with a neutral site contest against Lake Superior State University. For a second straight game, the Hawks suited up against a team bearing the name Lakers, and for a second straight game, the Lakers came away with a victory, defeating QU 75-62.

Quincy wasn't firing on a cylinders in the first half, but still made things work, converting on 42% (14-33) of its field goals to hang around and trail by just five at halftime, 39-34. Zion Richardson poured in 10 of his team high 19 points in his first 18 minutes of work hitting on five of his eight first half shots.

It was another ice cold shooting night from behind the arc for the Hawks, who found nylon from long range on just 4-24 attempts while the Lakers made 9-26, converting half their field goals or better in both frames of the contest.

Although the Hawks couldn't get much of anything going offensively, the defense did well to force 18 turnovers from Lake Superior State, more than double Quincy's total in the category. In turn, QU collected 13 steals for its defensive efforts, lead by Nate Shockey who had five steals in just the second half and six total, along with 12 points to join Richardson as the second Hawk in double figures.

LSSU used a big run in the second half to stave off any hopes of a late comeback effort for Quincy, as the Lakers secured the 75-62 victory to move to 4-0 on the year, following a win over preseason GLVC favorite, UINDY on Saturday (Nov. 18).

Next up for Quincy is a home showdown with Judson University from the friendly confines of Pepsi Arena. The Hawks look to right the ship against the Eagles on Saturday (Nov. 25) for a 3:00 PM contest.
