ALLENDALE, Mi. - The Hawks hit the road after a midweek, home-opening win against Hannibal-LaGrange, traveling to Michigan to take on the Lakers of Grand Valley State. Poor shooting paired with a 50-24 deficit in rebounds plagued Quincy in a 105-63 defeat at the hands of GVSU.
The Lakers kicked off the game on a 7-0 run before
Mason Wujek put the Hawks on the board with a layup a little over three minutes into the contest. Later in the half, QU stayed within striking distance on a jumper from
Orlando Thomas to make it 15-10. Shortly after at 23-16, a six-point run from GVSU found Quincy trailing 29-16. Up 34-23, Grand Valley State ended the first half on a 12-3 run to make it 46-26 heading to the locker room.
Four points from
Ibrahim Drame and two from
Jamil Wilson sparked a 6-1 run from Quincy to open the second half and cut the lead to 47-32. It was all GVSU from there, as the Lakers shot 65% (21-32) from the field and 50% (7-14) from beyond the arc in the second half to close out the win.
Nate Shockey led QU in scoring with 11 as the only Hawk to reach double figures. The senior collected seven of his points on a 7-8 effort from the charity stripe along with not committing a turnover in his 21 minutes of play.
Next up for Quincy is a Monday night (Nov. 20) showdown with Lake Superior State at Kalamazoo College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM EST (6:00 PM CST)
