Men's Tennis Splits Weekend with Newman and Missouri Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team split a pair of weekend competitions against the Jets of Newman University and the Vikings of Missouri Valley College. The Hawks fell to Newman 5-2 on Friday afternoon (Oct. 6) and defeated Missouri Valley 6-1 on Saturday (Oct. 7). 

Friday Match vs Newman

The Hawks came away with a single victory in doubles action. The pairing of Ettore Pavesi and Sebastian Gomez defeated Lippolis and Bramati (6-1) to claim the lone victory in doubles. Gianni Lopez and Joseph Restrepo fell to the team of Pentreado and Bruckner (66-78) along with Inigio Villacampa and Zach Willing dropping their match (2-6) to Makhmudov and Mounr to round out doubles. 

In singles, the Hawks claimed two victories. Lopez took down Torrini (7-6 [5], 6-4) to notch a point for Quincy. Villacampa won the other match for QU, defeating Mounr (6-2, 6-4) for the final Hawk winner of the day. 

Others in singles competition included a (4-6, 1-6) loss for Restrepo at the hand of Bruckner. Pavesi dropped his match to Makhmudov (6-2, 0-6 [0-10]) and Willing fell to Penteado (4-6, 6-3, [5-10]). Francisco Nique rounded out the Hawks in competition with a (6-2, 4-6, [8-10]) loss to Bramati. 

Saturday Match vs Missouri College

Two of the three Quincy doubles teams came away with wins. The pairing of Villacampa and Willing defeated Tamidsu and Ruiz (6-3) and the team of Lopez and Restrepo took down Anvpov and Zackarovh  (6-3) to claim two points for QU. In other doubles competition, Pavesi and Gomez dropped their match to Martinez and Caratti (5-7). 

In singles, the Hawks won all matches but one. Villacampa took down Sottocornola (6-3, 6-2) along with Pavesi over Ruiz (6-3, 6-4). Lopez defeated Bueso (6-4, 6-2) and Mateos Niella took down Zackarovh (4-6, 7-5, [10-7]). Willing dropped the lone singles match to Deshamps (7-6 [4], 7-5) to end singles competition. 

The Hawks now look forward to the distant future and a matchup with Missouri Baptist University on Friday (Feb. 16) to kickoff the spring schedule.
