Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer program fought the Drury Panthers on Friday night (Oct. 6). Locked in defensive squads from both sides kept the score tied at zero.
High energy from the Hawks started the game on a positive note. Quincy connected well in the first half of the first half and fought to evenly split the possession for the first half with Drury. Senior defender
Alex Lehmann started in the midfield for the Hawks this game and was able to facilitate much of the play going up the left side. Despite the box score's three shots in the first half, the Hawks had ample opportunities in scoring position.
Rennato Ramos reappeared in the lineup for the Hawks, coming off the bench and drawing fouls outside the box for more chances at net.
The second half saw similar energy from both sides, but much more physicality. Seven out of the eleven total yellow cards handed out this game were given during the second half, the majority going toward the Panthers. Though the Hawks tempo never faltered in the second half, it was the Panthers who made more attempts at the net, sending eight shots toward goal.
Both teams' defense did well at shutting down offensive bursts. Both Drury and Quincy average around 14.1 shots against in a game, yet in this match they each allowed about half of their average.
George Roke had two saves in the second half of play.
The Hawks look to get their second conference win on Sunday, October 8th as they take on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University.
