Hawks Stay Close to No. 11 Greyhounds, Fall 24-14

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University football team faced the undefeated, 11th nationally-ranked University of Indianapolis on Saturday (Oct. 21). The Hawks kept the Greyhounds to 24 points, 13.5 points less than their per-game average, yet fell 24-14 at full time.

First Half
The first quarter in Quincy saw six drives, neither team adding points to the scoreboard. Devon Parrott helped push the Greyhounds back to their 5-yard line with a 75-yard punt in the first. Quincy tried for a field goal at the start of the second quarter, but it bounced off the woodwork and out. The Greyhounds first got on the board in the next drive off a quarterback rush.

The most exciting play for Hawks fans occurred later in the quarter when senior Jackson Connell hurried the quarterback and forced an easily intercepted pass that was picked off by Brock Inman. Inman returned the ball 75 yards to tie the game at 7. The Hawks walked back to the locker room at halftime tied to a nationally-ranked, undefeated team.

Second Half
The Greyhounds took the lead in the third quarter off of a short pass. Shortly after the touchdown, ace quarterback Drake Davis was replaced for injury by freshman Ike Wiley. Indy extended the lead in the fourth quarter after an interception on Quincy's 4-yard line led to a drive change. The Greyhounds also converted a field goal shortly after, putting the Hawks down 24-7.

The Hawks added some excitement to the fourth quarter with a 33-yard rush from JQ Brown. Brown slipped past the group of linesmen and had a straight shot to the house. Quincy finished the game down 24-14, a close one against the top team of the GLVC.

Lazerick Hill led the Hawks with nine tackles, including eight solo tackles.

The Hawks look to get back in the win column next Saturday when they face McKendree at 3pm at home. As a reminder to fans, the tailgating parking lot will only open four hours prior to game time, this week at 11am.
