Quincy, Ill. - Coming off a hot weekend on the road, the Quincy University men's soccer program looked to continue the win streak going against the McKendree Bearcats on Friday night (Oct. 20). Unfortunately, the streak died as the Hawks fell 3-0.
Similar to the women's team, the Hawks were on the chase to start the game, giving up a goal in the first five minutes of play. Goalkeeper
George Roke had no chance at the shot, coming from within yards of the keeper with a lot of power behind the ball. McKendree's high line of defense and aggressive goalkeeper kept the Hawks at bay for most of the first half. The Bearcats scored again off a penalty kick halfway through the half.
The Hawks found some energy after an outstanding play from Roke and defender
Jake Ellis. Roke made the first save, giving up a rebound and finding himself away from the second shot. Ellis covered the length of the goal, putting his body between the ball and the goal to keep the Hawks only down two at the end of the half.
McKendree scored another goal halfway through the second half, making it hard for the Hawks to have a comeback. Despite playing much of the second half in McKendree territory, the Hawks could not find the back of the net. Roke ended the game with seven saves.
The Hawks hope to get an important win on Sunday against University of Missouri-St. Louis. The men will celebrate senior day prior to kickoff.
