Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team finished out its home slate with a bang on Sunday (Oct. 22) with a 3-1 victory over University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Hawks picked up three points with this win, staying in the top eight of the conference.
The scoreboard stayed empty the first half, both teams sharing an equal bit of possession. A huge opportunity came for the Tritons halfway through the half with a rocket high, right of goalkeeper
George Roke, who parried it into the crossbar and had help from his defense to keep it out of the net.
The Hawks found their offensive groove early in the second half. Local product
Carter Venvertloh put the first goal on the scoreboard for the Hawks, sending the ball past the UMSL goalkeeper. UMSL tied the game up ten minutes later off of a hat-tipping free-kick that bent around the Quincy wall and into the left upper corner.
With a lot of time left in the game, the Hawks were able to settle in and find their footing.
Rennato Ramos put up the second goal of the game, unassisted. The duo of
Marcel Kaspar and
Ben Scotford sealed the win for the Hawks with just seven minutes remaining. Kaspar cut his dribble inside and blasted a ball off the crossbar, sending it straight down for Scotford to tap in on the goal line.
The Hawks celebrated three seniors today,
Moudi Ibrahima,
Tiger Thomas, and
Alex Lehmann. Quincy looks to keep the momentum going on their final trip of the regular season in Indianapolis and Romeoville.
