Winning Streak Reaches 5 in Tough Conference Win

LIBERTY, Mo. – For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Quincy University men's basketball team has a five game winning streak after they knocked off William Jewell College on Thursday, January 5th by the score of 67-66. Malik Hardmon and Isaiah Foster helped to secure the win by knocking down their free throws in the final minute of the contest.

QU made the most of its offense in the first half as they shot 16 of 29 from the field for 55% and 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. The opening half proved that both teams were very evenly matched and neither could get much separation from one another. QU's lead would reach 9 points on back-to-back three-pointers by Nate Shockey and JJ Schwepker. Despite the Cardinals fighting back, the Hawks would keep the lead for the majority of the half and take an eight point cushion into the locker room.

Over the middle stretch of the 2nd half, the Cardinals used a 10-1 run to take a one-point advantage with eight and a half minutes remaining in the contest. The Hawks seemed to have an answer every time the Cardinals. In the final 8 minutes, the teams exchanged leads 5 times, as the Hawks hit key free throws down the stretch. Hardmon drew a game deciding charge with 4 seconds left as William Jewell had the ball and a chance to win the game.

The Hawks will return home next Thursday, January 12th as they host Rockhurst University with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
