KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Tipping off the 2023 portion of the schedule, the Hawks traveled to Truman State University on Thursday, January 5
th. The Bulldogs were able to defend home court and won by the score of 68-56.
TSU jumped out to a 10-3 lead early in the first quarter, as the Hawks lone basket was by
Emma Knipe.
Beth Matas Martin hit her lone three pointer of the contest with just over 2 minutes left in the quarter to cut the deficit to four. The Bulldogs took a 6 point lead into the 2
nd quarter behind 63.6% from the field.
QU cut the deficit to 2 points early in the 2
nd stanza, but were not able to tie the contest. The Bulldogs would see the lead swell to double digits on back-to-back baskets by Hannah Belanger.
Despite trailing by 5 entering the 3
rd quarter, the Hawks were not able to get any closer. TSU outscored the Hawks 22-14 in the frame.
In the opening minute of the final stanza, the Hawks clawed back to within single digits, but ultimately would not be able to keep up with the Bulldogs. The Truman State lead expanded to 15 on back-to-back three point baskets by Belanger and Ellie Weltha.
