Hawks Drop Regular Season Finale to Missouri S&T in Wild Contest; Await GLVC Tournament Opponent

Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University Baseball team wrapped up the 2022 regular season against the Missouri S&T Miners on Sunday (5/8) afternoon at QU Stadium. The Miners took the wild affair by the score of 12-11.

The Miners got on the board first with 2 runs in the top of the 1st with an RBI single and sac fly. The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Sebastian Martinez got the scoring started with an RBI single to center field that scored Lance Logsdon. Kade Burns hit a 3-run home run for his first of the season to make it 4-2 Hawks.

The Hawk lead didn't last long as the Miners scratched 4 runs across in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom half of the inning, Zach Parks started a two-out rally with a single to left field. Joe Roscetti followed up with a triple to center field that scored Parks. Burns kept his bat hot as he singled that scored Roscetti to make it 6-5 Quincy.

Missouri S&T took the 9-6 lead thanks to runs on the 6th and 7th innings. Zach Parks reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the 7th that scored Dayson Croes to make it 9-7 Miners. The Miners made it 10-7 in the 8th thanks to an RBI single. Croes answered that run with his 9th home run of the season to right center.

The 9th inning became interesting for both teams. Missouri S&T scored on a bunt single. With the bases loaded, the Miners were hit by the pitch to make it 12-8. In the bottom half of the inning, Martinez would score on a wild pitch to make it 12-9. Burns would hit his 2nd home run of the game to make it 12-11.

The Hawks will continue their 2022 season starting on Thursday (5/12) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament at Lindenwood University. The Hawks' opponent and time is still to be determined.
