Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University Baseball team is getting set for NCAA Midwest Super Regional play in Springfield, Illinois. The Hawks are now ranked 20
th in the Collegiate Baseball poll as of May 23, 2022. This comes as they won the NCAA Midwest Regional #1 in Caledonia, Michigan last week.
SUPER-REGIONAL SCHEDULE
The best-of-three series at UIS Baseball Field against the Illinois – Springfield Prairie Stars starts on Friday (5/27) and Saturday (5/28). Game one of the series is scheduled for 1:00 PM on May 27
th, while games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are scheduled for May 28
th starting at 11:00 AM.
SERIES HISTORY VS UIS
The Hawks lead the all-time series against the Prairie Stars 16 wins to 9 losses. The series includes a four game series in Quincy, Illinois on March 25
th through March 27
th, in which the Hawks took three of four games. In the latest meeting during the GLVC Championship Game, UIS won by the score of 16-3.
HAWKS IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Sophomore Catcher
Luke Napleton has hit 18 home runs this season for the Hawks. This currently sits tied for 2
nd with Jake Walters, who hit 18 in the 2017 season.
Ryan Snyder is the record holder with 23 in the 2016 season.
Senior first baseman
Lance Logsdon sits at 34 career home runs which currently sits 2
nd all-time in the Hawk record books. He is one behind Chad Hammons who hit 35 from 1997 to 1999.
SCOUTING THE PRAIRIE STARS
The Prairie Stars enter Super-Regional play with a record of 46-8 and sit 8
th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Poll. They won the Midwest Regional #2 as the 3 seed by defeating Ashland, Walsh and Wayne State in three straight games.
They are led by D2CCA and NCBWA Region Player of the Year in Zion Pettigrew. Pettigrew has batted .424 on the year, with 25 home runs (currently 4
th in NCAA) and 89 RBIs (2
nd in NCAA). He is also 10 for 11 in stolen base attempts on the season. As a team UIS has hit 101 home runs, which currently sits 7
th in the nation.
The UIS pitching staff has a 4.24 ERA, which is good for first in the GLVC and 23 in the nation. They are led by Quinn Gudaitis who holds a 13.86 strikeouts per nine innings (6
th in NCAA). Gudaitis is 8-2 on the season making 13 starts. They also have Colton Hale who is 11-1 on season in 14 starts and a 3.39 ERA.
RECAPPING MIDWEST REGIONAL #1
The Hawks entered regional play as the #4 seed and were placed in the Davenport University bracket, with the Panthers and the #5 seed Northwood University Timberwolves.
On Thursday (5/19), the Hawks opened regional play against the Timberwolves. QU went into the 9
th inning leading 5-1, Northwood hit three home runs to tie the game at 5, which forced extra innings. Northwood ended up plating five runs in the top of the 12
th to win the game 10-5.
After losing the opening game, the Hawks were facing elimination as they had to regroup and play the top-seeded Davenport Panthers. They took care of the home team by the score of 17-4 by hitting five home runs. Quincy had 24 hits, 10 of which went for extra bases against Davenport pitching.
Jay Hammel got the start going the full 9 innings, striking out 7 batters.
With Quincy bouncing back to stay alive in regional play, they got a rematch with Northwood on Friday (5/20) and got the 10-4 win to eliminate the Timberwolves. The difference in the game was the 9 run, 2
nd inning by the Hawks, in which they sent 14 batters to the plate.
The Hawks advanced to a winner-take-all game against the Davenport Panthers. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead through 2 innings, helped get the pitching staff comfortable. Going into the 9
th inning, tied at 7,
Lance Logsdon hit the go-ahead RBI double.
Sebastian Martinez gave Quincy an insurance run on an RBI single to left field.

All seating is general admission and cash only. Admission will be $10 per day for adults, $5 per day for youth (ages 5-17) and students with ID. There is no charge for children under 5. Tickets will be available at the complex on game days. The gates will open one 90 minutes before the first game of the day.
There will be no fan pass list. Fans are allowed to bring their own chairs for use in grass areas surrounding the field.
