Romeoville, Ill. – Illinois Springfield's Zion Pettigrew and Indianapolis' Xavier Rivas headline the 2022 D2CCA Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team. They were named the Midwest Region Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as selected by the region's sports information directors.
Pettigrew, a senior, third baseman, from Chicago, Ill, repeats as the Midwest Region Player of the Year and was the Player of the Year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the second straight season. He is one of the top hitters in NCAA Division II this season, batting .421 with an .868 slugging percentage and has an on-base percentage of .541. In 51 games, he has 73 runs, 84 RBI, 16 doubles and 23 home runs. Among players in the Midwest Region, Pettigrew is first in walks, runs batted in, slugging percentage and is tied for first in home runs
Rivas, a sophomore, starting pitcher for the Greyhounds from Portage, Ind., has made 12 appearances on the mound this season and was the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Year. He was 7-0 with a 2.24 earned run average in 80.1 innings pitched and struck out 128 batters while holding the opposition to a .170 batting average. Rivas is second in Division II in total strikeouts and fifth in strikeouts per nine innings pitched. He leads the GLVC in strikeouts and is fifth in wins. Rivas recorded double-digit strikeouts in all but two starts this spring.
