Romeoville, Ill – The Quincy University Men's Volleyball team began their final weekend of MIVA action on Thursday (4/7) evening and fell in 4 sets to the Lewis Flyers 3-1 (16-25, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25).
The opening set was close until late in the set. The Flyers saw a lead increase to 17-13, that forced a Hawk timeout. After that timeout, Lewis finished the set on an 8-3 run to win the set 25-16. The Flyers attack had 11 kills on 17 attempts, while not committing an error. The Hawks had 13 kills on 25 attempts, while committing 6 errors.
In the 2
nd set, the Flyers jumped out to a 4-point lead at 9-5. That grew into five points at 11-6 in favor of Lewis. The Hawks kept getting as close as 3 points at several points in the set but couldn't get any closer. Lewis won the set 25-20 to take a 2 sets to none lead in the match. The Flyers kept their strong attack going as they had 12 kills on 21 attempts with 2 errors. The Hawks had 10 kills on 16 attempts with 3 errors. Both teams had a hitting percentage over .430.
The Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the 3
rd set. They took advantage of several Flyer errors. A block by
Nathan Lawton and
Niall Burton forced Lewis to take a timeout as the Hawk lead was 10-6. Coming out of the timeout, the match was back and forth. Both teams would tie the match at a few different points. From the point of 13-13, the Hawks led the rest of the set to win 25-20. Quincy had 10 kills on 23 attempts, with only one error. The Flyers had 16 kills on 35 attempts with 9 errors.
The opening of the 4
th set was back and forth. There were 7 ties and 3 lead changes until the Flyers grabbed a hold of the lead at 8-7. The Lewis lead would grow to as large of 6 points at 19-13. Eventually, Lewis would win the set 25-16 to take the match. The Flyers had another flawless offensive set with 14 kills on 21 attempts for a percentage of .667. The Hawks had 12 kills on 24 attempts while committing 7 errors.
