St. Louis, MO—The Quincy University Women's Lacrosse team traveled to NAIA ranked #8 Missouri Baptist Spartans on Saturday afternoon (March 12
th) and came away with a 12-11 victory.
In the first frame, the Spartans would jump out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Kamryn Bell and Jordan Haeusser. About 90 seconds after that,
Patricia Chavira got the Hawks on the board to make it 2-1. In the minute plus of action, 3 more goals were scored, including goals by
Josephina Szmanda and Chavira to tie the contest at 3.
Just 84 seconds into the 2
nd quarter,
Kara Wilhelm gave Quincy their first lead. Chavira would add her 3
rd goal, no less than 30 seconds later to make it a 5-3 Hawk lead.
Danielle Robinson got into the scoring act to give Quincy a 6-3 lead. Missouri Baptist scored 4 unanswered goals to retake the lead at 7-6. Chavira scored with 1:35 left in the first half to tie the game at 7.
Coming out of the halftime break, both teams kept trading goals. After MBU made it 8-7,
Sarah Conroy tied the game for the 4
th time at the 12:35 mark of the 3
rd quarter. With just under 6 minutes to go, Robinson made it 9-8 Hawks. As the quarter was winding down, the Spartans tied the game once more.
Early in the final stanza,
Bianca Johnson gave the Hawks the lead back at 10-9. After MBU tied the game at 10, Chavira scored just a minute later to make it 11-10. With less than 3 minutes left in the contest, Robinson added her 3
rd goal and gave the Hawks the lead for good at 12-11.
