QUINCY, IL – Postseason time has arrived in the GLVC. Tonight (February 28
th) is the opening round of the GLVC Men's Basketball tournament. This year due to COVID-19 postponements all 15 teams make the tournament, with the top seed based of the league's Point Rating System getting a bye to the Vadalabene Center on the campus of SIU-Edwardsville. The quarterfinal games will take place on March 3
rd and 4
th, with the semi-finals on March 5
th and the conference championship on March 6
th.
The Quincy University men (15-15, 7-12 GLVC), which earned the 10
th seed, open the GLVC tournament with a trip to Lebanon, IL tonight to take on the 7
th seeded Mckendree Bulldogs (13-11, 9-11 GLVC). This will be the second meeting between the schools this year with the Bearcats taking the previous matchup by the score of 91-86.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
- First postseason appearance since the 2016-17 season in which, they lost to Lewis in the quarterfinals
- First .500 or better season since the 2019-20 season
- Interim Coach Pat Richardson has tallied a 3-1 record since taking over on February 11th
- Malik Hardman and Paul Zilinskas lead the Hawks offensively averaging over 12 points a game
- Jamaurie Coakley is 4th in the GLVC with 139 assists this season
- Hawks are 2nd in the league in offensive rebounds per game at 11.37
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
- Bearcats have lost 3 out of their last 4 games, with the lone win coming at home against Maryville
- Lost to Lewis last year in the quarterfinals
- Bryson Bultman leads the scoring attack at 19.2 points per game, which sits 4th in the GLVC. Bultman posted 32 points in the regular season matchup against the Hawks
- The Bearcats take care of the ball as they rank 3rd in the GLVC in fewest turnovers
