TOPEKA, KAN---The Quincy University Hawks softball team got swept on Monday (Feb 21) 7-2 and 7-6 against Washburn University to round out their weekend.
The Hawks surrendered five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, and despite seven hits on the offensive end they couldn't overcome the early deficit. QU tallied one run in the fourth and one in the seventh in the first game of the double header.
Taylor Downen led QU in the first game of the afternoon with a 3-4 performance at the plate with one run scored as well.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Hawks surrendered five runs in the bottom frame of the first inning again, despite getting on the board first with a 3-0 lead. QU tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth but allowed runs in the fifth and sixth and trailed 7-5 after six innings. Quincy came within a run in the seventh after they plated a run, but could not complete the full comeback.
Bailey Mitchell led the offense in game two with three hits while
Audrey Hermann and
Casey Brennan each had two hits. Brennan led QU with three runs driven in as well.
