The Quincy University men's basketball team triumphed over Rockhurst University 86-80 in a thrilling GLVC matchup at Pepsi Arena on Thursday (February 17) night.
QU drew first blood in the first half, with Jamaurie Coakley hitting a jumper fifteen seconds into play. Nate Shockey hit a layup soon after, making it 4-0 QU with 18:44 remaining in the half. The rest of the half was a captivating back-and-forth, with QU retaking the lead for the final time off of three Paul Zilinskas free throws, which made the score 26-25 with 4:17 remaining. Mark Bradshaw, Jr. scored the final points of the half with a three-pointer with thirty-four seconds remaining, with the game going to halftime at a 36-31 QU lead.
QU kept the lead for the rest of the game, never letting Rockhurst get past a three-point deficit. An Adam Moore three-pointer with 19:05 remaining started the game offensively for QU, and the final points of the game were scored on two free-throws by Coakley, with the final score being 86-80 QU.
Paul Zilinskas led QU with 20 points in 33 minutes of play. Adam Moore scored 18 points in 30 minutes of play, Nate Shockey scored 18 points in 27 minutes of play, and Jalen Stamps scored 10 points with a team-leading 5 rebounds (tied with Jamaurie Coakley) in 15 minutes of play.
