CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Quincy University Hawks competed in the 2022 Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational hosted by Wabash College on November 18 – 20.
The Hawks were able to make some big strides as a program this weekend with NCAA DII B Cuts and meet records coming back to the Gem City. As a team, they placed 6
th out of 10 teams.
Opening the event, the Hawk 200 yard free relay team of
Kyle Scritchfield,
Martiniano Montero,
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco and
Borna Kisasondi set a meet record to win the event in 1:23.09. A 2
nd relay team of
Nolan May,
Dennis Mhini,
Corbett Wilson and
Ethan Anderson placed in 16
th with a time of 1:32.30.
In the 500 yard free race,
Nolan May swam in the "C" final and placed in 25
th with a time of 5:12.54.
Wyatt Walsh kicked off his successful weekend with a time of 1:48.95 to set the meet record in the 200 yard IM and post a DII B cut.
Ethan Anderson also swam in the "A" final and placed 6
th with a time of 1:58.13.
Five Hawks swam in the 50 yard free race finals.
Borna Kisasondi won the event in 20.71 seconds, while Matiniano Montero placed 5
th in 21 seconds and
Kyle Scritchfield placed 7
th in 21.27 seconds. France Augurusa and
Dennis Mhini swam in the "B" final and placed 16
th and 19
th, respectively.
The relay team of
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco,
Wyatt Walsh,
Borna Kisasondi and
Martiniano Montero won the 400 yard Medley Relay in 3:22.76, which is also a meet record.
They also competed in the 200 yard Medley Relay and won that event in 1:30.46, to capture another meet record. QU had a second relay team consisting of
Dennis Mhini,
Corbett Wilson,
Nolan May and
Kyle Scritchfield placed 15
th in a time of 1:40.99.
Wyatt Walsh set a meet record in the 400 yard IM in a time of 3:54.45, which was also good for a "B" cut. That time also sits 4
th fastest in the country for Division II.
Four Hawks placed in the top 10 in the 100 yard butterfly, led by Kisasondi in a time of 49.57 to place 2
nd. Augurusa Franco was right behind his teammate placing 3
rd in a time of 50.24. Montero placed 5
th in the "A" final with a time of 50.54.
Ethan Anderson rounded out the Hawks contingent in the top 10 with a time of 51.90 to finish in 9
th place.
Nolan May also competed in the "B" final of the event placing in 16
th with a time of 53.43.
In the 200 yard free race, Montero placed in 13
th with a time of 1:48.82.
Walsh won his 3
rd event of the weekend in the 100 yard breast with a time of 55.83. That also set a new meet record, besting the previous mark of 56.55 set in 2018. Scritchfield swam in a time of 1:01.51 to place 16
th in the "B" final.
Corbett Wilson rounded out the Hawks in the event with a time of 1:09.38.
Three of the four QU swimmers in the 100 yard backstroke placed in the top 10. Kisasondi won the event with a swim of 50.27 seconds. Augurusa Franco placed 4
th with a time of 51.75. Mhini rounded out the swimmers in the "A" cut with a time of 54.22.
Nolan May also competed in the "C" final of the event finishing with a time of 56.49 seconds.
Quincy had a relay team in the finals of the 800 yard free relay that finished in 11
th. Wyatt Wash,
Ethan Anderson,
Nolan May and
Corbett Wilson swam in a time of 7:26.55.
Anderson and Scritchfield swam in the 100 yard IM finals. They placed 2
nd and 5
th individually. Anderson finished in a time of 53.29, while Scritchfield finished in 54.65 seconds.
The lone swimmer in the 200 yard backstroke race for the Hawks was Augurusa Franco, who finished in 4
th with a time of 1:56.55.
Kisasondi picked up his 6
th win of the meet in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.12. Montero finished in 5
th with a time of 47.14. Scritchfield rounded out the Hawks in the event with a time of 48.83 to place 18
th.
Walsh was not finished with picking up wins as he set a meet record and registered a "B" cut with a time of 2:00.95 to win the 200 yard breaststroke.
In the 200 yard fly, Anderson swam in a time of 1:54.36 to finish in 3
rd place, while May finished in 12
th with a time of 2:01.32.
The relay team of Walsh, Kisasondi, Montero and Anderson helped the Hawks win their 4
th relay of the weekend in the 400 yard free with a meet record of 3:04.84.
The Hawks will be back in the pool against the University of Missouri – St. Louis Tritons on December 16
th.
