ADA, Okla. – After a convincing set one win for the Hawks, QU and East Central University went toe-to-toe. Quincy would come out on top in 4 sets (25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22). The Hawks registered a season high 12 aces in the win.
Set 1
The Hawks jumped on the Tigers early as they saw a lead grow to 11-3. A third kill by Alice Pavan in the early going gave the Hawks a 12-4 lead. The Hawks took advantage of ECU's errors and low hitting percentage (.061) to take the opening set in a huge way.
Four different Hawks recorded an ace, while the team only committed three errors in the opening set. Mattison Norris led the way with 5 kills on 8 attempts.
Set 2
The second set was a different story than the opening set as the Tigers game out of the gates firing on all cylinders with an 8-2 lead that forced Mark Jones to call a timeout. That timeout got the wheels turning for QU as they went on two different 4-0 runs to tie the set at 17. Those runs were fueled by ECU errors. A Norris ace would give the Hawks the 20-19 lead, but eventually the Tigers took the set 25-23.
Set 3
Another slow start for the Hawk offense in the 3
rd set as they saw the Tigers take a 5-1 lead. Three consecutive kills by Emma Wijnbergen got Quincy back on track as they closed the game to 7-4. Three errors by ECU gave Quincy the 21-18 lead late in the set and was able to finish off the set to go up 2 sets to 1 in the match.
Set 4
Aces by Makayla Knoblauch, Emily Rehagen and America Galvan saw QU take an 8-2 lead. After Knoblauch registered back-to-back aces, the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to take the 17-14 lead as they looked to force a fifth set. The Hawks would finish off the set and the match by winning 25-22.
