QUINCY, Ill. – The women's volleyball team made more program history on Friday night (Oct. 28) in Pepsi Arena as they hosted the Rockhurst University Hawks. No. 24 QU came out victorious in straight sets (25-16, 25-19, 26-24). The victory was the first in program history over RU in Pepsi Arena.
Set 1
QU used the ruckus Pepsi Arena crowd to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. Back-to-back kills by Emma Wijnbergen made it 7-3 QU. RU got to within 3 points at 13-10, but Quincy used a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 20-12.
Behind only 3 errors and a .381 attack percentage, QU would take the opening set 25-16.
Set 2
QU started the second set slowly as Rockhurst jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Quincy took advantage of costly Rockhurst errors to claw their way back into the middle set. QU saw them take a 15-11 lead on three attack errors in a row by RU. A Rockhurst kill tied the set at 17, but three more errors gave QU a 20-17 lead. Kills by Rehagan and Makayla Knoblauch along with an ace by Alice Pavan saw Quincy win the set 25-19.
Set 3
Rockhurst looked to be gaining some traction as they opened the set with an 8-4 lead that eventually blossomed into a 17-11 lead. QU would proceed to go on a 5-0 run to get within a point at 17-16. Behind Rehagen's team leading 14
th kill, Quincy tied the set at 20. QU took advantage of more RU errors to take the set 26-24.
