The Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 87-59 in a GLVC matchup at Pepsi Arena on Saturday (Jan 29) afternoon.
The first quarter was rough, with the Hawks never gaining the lead during the duration of the game as a result. Emma Knipe turned an offensive rebound into a layup to score the Hawks' first points of the game, making the score 3-2 USI with 8:45 remaining. This was as close as the Hawks got to the lead, with the quarter ending 28-15 USI.
The Screaming Eagles continued to pull away in the second quarter. The Hawks scored the first of their fourteen points that quarter on a layup from Sarah Nelson, making the score 30-17 USI with 8:57 remaining. This was once again as close as the Hawks got to the lead throughout, with the score being 49-29 USI by the time the buzzer sounded and the half ended.
The third quarter was more of the same, with another Nelson layup making the score 51-31 USI with 9:24 remaining and the Hawks struggling to catch up from there. The quarter ended with the score being 75-41 USI.
The Hawks struggled at the start of quarter four, but it managed to be their best quarter on a pure offensive standpoint. Marta Rivera sank a jumper with 8:12 remaining to get the first of the Hawks' eighteen points in the quarter, with their last points of the game coming from a three-pointer by Regan Laconte with 1:26 remaining.
Beth Matas Martin led the Hawks with 14 points in 28 minutes of play, with Emma Knipe scoring 10 points in 21 minutes of play.
