Box Score QUINCY,IL The Quincy University men's basketball team fell to the McKendree University Bearcats 91-86 in a close GLVC matchup at the Melvin Price Convocation Center on Thursday (Jan 20) night.
The Hawks were the first on the board, with a driving layup by Jamaurie Coakley and a three-pointer from Adam Moore making it a 5-0 lead with 18:46 remaining. However, the Bearcats soon went on a tear, leaving the Hawks trailing for the majority of the half. But in the last two minutes, the Hawks fought back, with a layup and a free throw by Charles Callier tying the game at 46 and Nate Shockey making a jumper with just two seconds remaining, meaning that the Hawks finished the half with a 48-46 lead.
The second half didn't start well for the Hawks, who lost the lead quickly and didn't score until Callier made a jumper with 16:35 remaining. The team continued to trail afterwards, but managed to fight their way back, with Coakley landing a hook shot to make the score 67-66 Hawks. Some back and forth ensued from there, with a Malik Hardmon layup and a three-pointer by Mark Bradshaw, Jr. turning the lead to the Hawks at various points, Bradshaw's resulting in the score being 76-75 Hawks with 6:39 remaining. This was the last time the Hawks held the lead, however, as the Bearcats continued to pull away during the remainder of the game.
Malik Hardmon scored 20 points with 7 rebounds in 31 minutes of play. Nate Shockey (31 minutes) and Mark Bradshaw, Jr. (24 minutes) each scored 16 points, and Charles Callier scored 10 points in 29 minutes.
