SAINT LOUIS, MO---The Quincy University men's basketball earned a 71-67 win over Maryville on Sunday (Jan 2) afternoon.
Quincy played a closely contested game that featured 11 lead changes and the game was tied seven different times.
The Hawks led 64-54 with 4:09 left in the second half. Maryville used a run to make it a three point game at 64-61 with 3:34 left in the second half, but guard Paul Zillinskas responded with a three pointer which gave the Hawks a 67-61 lead.
With 1:06 left Maryville made two foul shots to come within two points at 69-67.
Quincy then tried to burn some clock, and missed a jump shot but
Jamaurie Coakley got the offensive rebound to give the Hawks the ball back. The Hawks then had an inbound on the baseline with three seconds left on the shot clock, and 12 seconds on the game clock when they lobbed it to
Malik Hardmon who executed the finish to put the Hawks up 71-67, and the Hawks closed it out on the other end of the floor to seal the victory.
Zilinskas went 8-10 from the field, 5-5 from 3-point range and scored 23 points in 21 minutes. Hardmon added 12 points and six rebounds, and Shockey had 11 points.
Silas Crisler had nine points and hit three 3-pointers, while Coakley had six points and six assists.
