QUINCY, IL---The Quincy University men's basketball team fell to Missouri S&T in a thrilling overtime matchup at Pepsi Arena on Monday (Jan 17) night.
A dunk from Adam Moore put the Hawks on the board for the first time with 18:47 left in the half, tying the game at 2, and a layup from Moore gave the Hawks their first lead of the game at 4-2, with 17:57 remaining. The half stayed close after that, with Jalen Stamps and Moore breaking ties at various points with a jumper and a three-pointer respectively, resulting in an 11-8 Hawks lead with 13:18 remaining. The Hawks were able to keep the lead for most of the half afterwards, but the Miners fought back, overtaking the Hawks and leading at the end of the half 35-33.
The Hawks opened the second half with a bang, with Paul Zilinskas tying the game at 35 with two free throws and Solomon Gustafson following that with a quick layup, giving the Hawks a 37-35 lead with 18:37 remaining. The lead was quickly lost, but a three-pointer from Charles Callier tied the game at 40, and a layup from Moore made the score 42-40 Hawks with 16:01 remaining. The Hawks kept their lead for a while after, but the Miners came in hot after calling a timeout with 11:49 remaining and kept it close. A three-pointer from Callier gave the Hawks a 72-63 lead with 4:18 remaining, their biggest lead in the half. A jumper by Mark Bradshaw, Jr. with 2:00 remaining made the score 74-70 Hawks, their last lead in the half as the Miners fought back, leaving the game tied at 74 at the end of regulation time.
Overtime for the Hawks started with a tear by Zilinskas who put the Hawks at a 79-78 lead with 3:15 remaining via a jumper, a free throw, and a step back. This was the last time they led in the game, though, only coming close again when Bradshaw, Jr. tied the game at 82 with 1:56 remaining.
Mark Bradshaw, Jr. led the team with 20 points and 4 assists in 26 minutes of playtime. Charles Callier scored 19 points in 44 minutes, Paul Zilinskas scored 15 points in 41 minutes, and Adam Moore scored 12 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals in 31 minutes.
