Hawks Earn 2-1 Win Behind Little's 56th Minute Game-Winner

QUINCY, IL. – The men's soccer team returned to Legend's Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 8) and earned a 2-1 win over Purdue Northwest.

Goalkeeper Michele Barletta was tested in the 6th minute when he made a stop on a shot toward the lower right corner of the frame. Barletta made the save to keep the visiting Pride off the board.

Alsadiq Hasan scored two minutes later in the eighth minute after Kyle Swanner played a ball to him from the midfield. Hasan was able to finish in the upper right corner of the goal to give QU the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks controlled a 1-0 lead until the Pride earned a plethora of free kicks in their attacking third. In the 24th minute, the PNW tied the game after having a free kick outside the box that was initially touched by Ryan Moran then finished by Isaiah Nieves of PNW to make the score 1-1.

Quincy attempted to take the lead toward the end of the first half when Marcel Kaspar and Alex Lehmann both had shots blocked in the 32nd minute, but the score remained 1-1.

In the second half, Barletta stood strong as he leaped to make a stop in the 46th minute. Ten minutes later the Hawks earned a free kick outside the 18-yard box of Purdue Northwest.

Cole Hayes and Macker Little lined up for the free kick. Hayes ran past the ball, and Little struck the ball around the Pride's wall in the lower right corner of the frame during the 56th minute. QU led 2-1.

Quincy maintained the pressure after the go-ahead goal. The home team forced the Pride to make five saves in the second half and were able to fend off Purdue Northwest to earn a 2-1 victory.
