Jack Rhead's 99th-Minute Goal Leads Hawks to Overtime Win Over UMSL

ST. LOUIS, MO. - The QU men's soccer team came from behind to defeat the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26). Jack Rhead tapped in the game-winning goal on a touch from Cole Hayes in the 99th minute to give the Hawks a 3-2 victory.

Quincy had to play from behind early in Sunday's GLVC matchup. The Tritons struck in just the 3rd minute of the game, but QU had a quick answer.

In the 15th minute, Alsadiq Hasan was contacted on a shot in the box that set up a penalty kick for the Hawks. Aubrey Reis stepped up and knocked down the PK attempt to tie the game, 1-1. It was Reis' third goal of the season.

Both teams went to the halftime break tied, but after the break, UMSL regained the advantage. The Tritons scored in the 60th minute to go up, 2-1.

Quincy's Spencer Van Nest sent a shot on goal shortly after, but the attempt was saved. The Hawks were persistent and got another chance off a corner kick in the 80th minute. Aubrey Reis sent in a feed from the far corner, and Cole Hays got a head on the ball as it scooted towards Macker Little. Little pushed the ball through a defender to equalize the game, 2-2.

Neither team scored in the last ten minutes of regulation as the contest moved to extra time.

Less than two minutes left on the clock in the first overtime period, the Hawks came through again. Keegan Klingele cleared a ball from QU's defensive zone and connected with Cole Hayes streaking down the left side of UMSL's defensive zone. Hayes pushed the ball deep into the goalie box with a defender draped all over him and finessed a pass to a wide open Jack Rhead. Rhead finished the job to give the Hawks a walk-off overtime win, 3-2. It was Rhead's fifth goal of the season.
