ROMEOVILLE, IL --- The Hawks traveled to Romeoville to face No.15 Lewis Flyers on Thursday (Sept. 16) night and lost 3-0.
Set 1
QU jumped off to a 2-0 lead, but Lewis answered back with three straight points. After being tied at 4-4, Lewis remained in the cockpit and controlled the lead the rest of the way. The Flyers extended their lead 12-6 until freshmen Emma Wijnbergen recorded a kill to stop that run.
After trailing by as much as nine points (19-10), Senior Sarah Brown brewed up a comeback with a kill that included a five-to-one stretch making it 20-16.
An attack error from the Flyers convinced the Hawks there was still hope to take the set while trailing by just two (22-20). The Flyers hit just .043 better than the Hawks which was enough to secure the first set 25-21.
Set 2
The Flyers jumped ahead 6-3, but the Hawks pulled within 6-5 when Lewis' Ava Venema made an attacking error. Another Flyer error resulted in a 7-7 score during the first set.
Libero America Galvan tied the score at 10-10 when she had a service ace, but the Flyers responded with a four-point run to lead 14-10. The Flyers kept the Hawks at bay until another attacking error made the score 17-16 in favor of Lewis. Another four point run put Lewis ahead 21-16, which ultimately buried QU in the second frame.
Lewis prevailed in the second frame despite having seven attacking errors, but QU was limited to a .111 attack percentage during the second stanza.
Set 3
The Flyers opened the third set with a 5-1 lead. Lewis then led 12-8 after a Wijnbergen kill, but Lewis fired back with a 6-0 run to take an 18-8 lead. This surged Lewis to take the final set 25-12 with ease. The Hawks hit just .056 in the final frame while Lewis posted a .357 attacking percentage.
