Lady Hawks End Weekend in Wisconsin With Split on Final Day

KENOSHA, WI – The Quincy University women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2021 Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 11). QU defeated host Wisconsin Parkside in straight sets, then nearly completed a reverse sweep in a five-set loss to Minnesota-Duluth

Game 1

Quincy's offense was outstanding once again as they hit .344 as a team in game one. Freshman Emma Wijnbergen led the team with 12 kills in the match followed by junior Emily Rehagen with nine kills. Junior transfer America Galvan led the Hawks defense with 17 digs and Makayla Knoblauch totaled 29 assists as she facilitated Quincy's offense. The Hawks won all three sets by a score of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-18 respectively. 

Game 2

The final game of Quincy's weekend went down to the wire and took five sets to decide. Quincy outhit Duluth with a .227 hitting percentage led mainly by three Hawks. Emma Wijnbergen had an impressive 17 kills, Rehagen tallied 13 kills, and Norris also had 13 kills as the trio combined for a total of 43 kills in the game. Knoblauch recorded a monster double-double after she racked up 23 digs and 44 assists. These numbers were not enough for the Hawks as the Hawks fell behind two sets to none and could not recover. Although the Hawks did win sets two and three by scores of 26-24 and 28-26. QU ran out of steam after falling in the deciding fifth set, 15-13. 

Next Game

The Hawks will remain on the road and will be heading to Romeoville, Illinois to play their first conference game of the season against Lewis University on Thursday (Sep. 16) at 7:00 PM.
