LIBERTY, MO. – After a two-game hiatus, Quincy native
Cole Hayes was inserted back into the Hawk lineup and scored two first half goals to give QU a 3-2 win over William Jewell on Thursday night (April 1).
Alsadiq Hasan delivered the final blow with his game-winning goal in the 69th minute.
On paper, Thursday night's matchup with the Cardinals was tight throughout. Quincy got off nine shots to Jewell's eight, and the Hawks sent seven on goal to the Cardinal's five. But
Cole Hayes delivered two strikes in the first thirty-two minutes of play to propel Quincy ahead 2-0. William Jewell threatened immediately when a foul in QU's defensive box led to a Cardinal penalty kick goal just six minutes later. QU led 2-1 in the 39th minute.
Cards became a factor as four were given in the game, a yellow and a red to each team.
Michele Barletta was tagged with his second red of the season in the 43rd minute to force Quincy to play down a man for the last two and a half minutes of the first half followed by the next eleven minutes of the second. In the 56th minute, Jewell got a yellow, then a red to even the playing field.
Thirteen minutes later,
Alsadiq Hasan gave the Hawks some much needed insurance with his first goal of the season, which ended up being the game-winner. Quincy led 3-1 going into the 70th minute of play.
The Cardinals showed some late life with a strike in the 79th minute, but that was the last shot William Jewell got off the rest of the way.
Quincy held on for the 3-2 win to move to fourth in the GLVC standings at 6-3-1 on the season.
