QUINCY, Ill. – It took eighty-five minutes and a handball in the box, but the Quincy University men's soccer team won their third straight game, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon over the McKendree Bearcats. 

The first half was evenly played as the two teams combined for 11 shots with McKendree getting off six and QU taking five. Both teams sent three shots on goal in the first forty-five, and the game was scoreless going into halftime. 

Cole Hayes got the first and only shot on goal in the second half when he sent one towards the keeper in the 62nd minute. Despite QU only notching one shot on goal, the Hawks battled on the defensive end and also limited the Bearcats to one shot on goal. 

The defensive struggle looked to continue past the 90-minute regulation, but McKendree made a crucial mistake in the 86th minute. The visitors were called for a clear handball inside their own box to set up a penalty kick for QU. Quincy's leading-goal scorer over the last three years, Aubrey Reis, stepped up and drilled the shot in the lower left corner of the frame. 

QU's defense held firm for the last four minutes and came away with their third win in a row.
