Men's Soccer Stunned Late By USI

EVANSVILLE, IN. – The Quincy University men's soccer team was the first to strike on Friday night (March 12), but the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana used two second half goals to defeat the Hawks, 2-1.

Quincy was persistent on the offensive end all night as they outshot Southern Indiana 17-9 in the contest. Eleven of those seventeen shots came in the first half as QU sent four on goal. Freshman Jack Rhead broke through just before the thirty-minute mark with a goal from inside the 18-yard box that was assisted by Alex Lehmann. Quincy held the 1-0 lead up until halftime.

USI picked up both their defensive and offensive urgency in the second half. The Screaming Eagles limited QU to just six total shots in the final forty-five and allowed just two shots on goal.

The game was brought to a tie on a long-distance shot and goal from Southern Indiana in the 63rd minute.

After the game-tying goal, Quincy was able to send off five more shots, but none of those shots found pay dirt. Southern Indiana scored a dagger with under five minute remaining in the game with a strike inside eighteen.

The Hawks had one last effort that included a shot on goal by Cole Hayes, but the save was made, and USI escaped with the come from behind win. Southern Indiana had just two shots on goal the entire game with both shots being goals.
