INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Quincy University men's soccer team scored less than thirty seconds into Sunday's game at second-ranked Indianapolis, but the Greyhounds scored twice in the second half to defeat the Hawks, 2-1.
Things could not have started better for the Hawks in Sunday's matchup.
Jack Rhead pressured the ball back deep in Indy's defensive zone. The defender attempted to send the ball back to the keeper from the near corner, but
Aubrey Reis came flying across the field to intercept the pass out of nowhere. Reis tapped the ball past the keeper and the ball rolled off the left post and into the net just twenty-seven seconds into the contest. It was Reis' third goal of the season.
QU's offense was held silent for the remainder of the game as the Hawks only managed two shots on goal the rest of the way.
The Hawks did hold a 1-0 lead going into the second half, but Sunday's contest played out eerily similar to Friday's game at Southern Indiana. The #2 Greyhounds upped the offensive pressure in the final forty-five and scored just a minute and a half into the second half.
UIndy continued to attack and sent off ten total shots in the second period. This pressure led to another goal in the 71st minute which allowed Indy to take a 2-1 lead.
The Hawks got off just one shot in the final nineteen minutes as their early spark faded into a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the second-ranked team in the country.
