QUINCY, Ill – After not scoring in their first two matches of the season, the Quincy University women's soccer team netted three goals in a 3-2 GLVC victory over UMSL on Friday night (March 5).
UMSL scored first after a foul by Quincy turned into a penalty kick just 17 minutes into the game. The Hawks had seven shots in the first half with two of those being on goal, but none of those shots found pay dirt.
In the second half, the tides turned in a major way after Quincy scored only five minutes into the second half. Junior Grace Hilbing struck a rocket into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. Only two minutes later, Hilbing maneuvered a magnificent pass to assist Mary Maloney on the Hawks' second goal of the game to go ahead 2-1.
Quincy continued their attack and in the 69th minute, Paige Anderson drove the ball through the net to make it 3-1.
UMSL charged right back one more time with their second goal of the game less than three minutes later. The Tritons made one last push, but Quincy junior keeper, Olivia Kindt, made a crucial save on the last shot on goal by UMSL to give the Hawks the victory.
