Indianapolis, IN - The Quincy University softball team remained on the road to face No. 11 University of Indianapolis in a doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 28). The Hawks fell in both games as they totaled six hits on the day in a 4-2 loss in the first game and an 8-0 defeat in the second.
Game 1
The Hawks began the game aggressively and scored the first two runs in the top of the first inning. UIndy's bats battled back in the bottom half by scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Hawks were kept quiet the rest of the way after coming out of the gates hot.
Taylor Downen hit a single to the middle with one out, and Chelsea Hooker followed up with a double to the left field line to put runners on second and third. With two outs, Bailey Mitchell reached on an error by shortstop, and Downen scored on the muffed play while Hooker moved to third. Jayle Jennings followed up with a single to right field to bring in the final run for the Hawks. QU was held to just one hit over the last six innings as the Greyhounds were victorious, 4-2.
Game 2
Quincy recorded just two hits in game two with a single by Jayle Jennings in the second inning and a double by Audrey Hermann in the fifth inning. The Hawks missed an opportunity to score after stranding two runners on base in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. UIndy scored eight runs total in the game which was enough to end it, 8-0, after five.
Next Game
The Hawks will continue their road stretch as they head to Rolla to face Missouri S&T in a doubleheader Saturday (April 3).
