ROLLA, MO – The QU softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Missouri S&T with 9-1 and 6-1 victories on Saturday (April 3) afternoon.Â
Game 1Â
Quincy scored four runs in the first inning to command a comfortable lead.
Jayle Jennings was hit by a pitch which scored
Taylor Downen, and then
Courtney Kernich drew a walk which allowed
Chelsea Hooker to score and QU led 2-0. Later in the inning
Kari Sarhage had a two RBI single that scored Jennings and
Bailey Mitchell. Both teams were quite until QU added two more in the top of the fifth.
Ashley Gerber grounded out to score
Casey Brennan, and Kennings had an RBI single to drive in Mitchell and QU led 6-0 after five innings. Quincy poured in three more runs in the top of the seventh with a Jennings RBI single, Gratza RBI groundout and then Jennings came around to score on a wild pitcher. QU allowed one run in the last half of the seventh, but came out on top 9-1.Â
Game 2
The Hawks scored in the first inning in game two as well when Hooker reached on an error, and then Jennings scored to make the lead 1-0 after one. Downen knocked a homerun to center field in the third inning to give QU a 2-0, but S&T responded with an RBI single in the bottom half and it was 2-1 after three innings. Quincy used a hit-by-pitch in the fifth and two RBI doubles in the sixth to secure a 5-1 advantage. Mitchell left the yard in the seventh, and the Hawks limited S&T to one run despite having nine hits.Â
