QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team battled the Truman State Bulldogs in a chippy, hard-fought battle on Sunday afternoon (March 28). Transfer midfielder,
Kyle Swanner got the game-winning goal in the 74th minute to give QU their fourth home win of the season.
There was no love lost between the Hawks and Bulldogs in Sunday's match. A total of 26 fouls were called and six yellow cards were given along with a red card in the 84th minute. The first thirty minutes went by quietly for QU as the Hawks got off just one shot to Truman's five. In the 32nd minute, a yellow card was given to
Nick Chapman, then a minute later, a yellow was given to TSU. Neither team got up a shot in the final twelve minutes as the teams moved to the second half scoreless.
Quincy turned up the offensive output after the break as they got off three shots in the first seven minutes. Two of those missed the mark and the other was sent on goal by
Alsadiq Hasan. In the 54th minute,
Edrey Caceres was given a yellow, and a minute later Truman was handed a card. Over the next fifteen minutes the Hawk defense did not allow the Bulldogs to get off a shot while QU sent out four.

The persistence paid off in the 74th minute when
Kyle Swanner scored from outside the box after getting assited by
Edrey Caceres. This goal proved to be the difference despite the final fifteen minutes saw two more yellow cards and a red card on QU. The Hawks played the final five minutes down a man, and Truman State sent two shots off with the Hawks during that span. One of those last shots was saved by QU keeper
Michele Barletta to keep the shutout in place.
QU won the match 1-0 to move to 4-0-1 inside Legends Stadium.
