Softball Drops Two Saturday Games at USI

EVASNVILLE, IN – The Quincy softball team traveled to USI for a double header on Saturday (March 27) afternoon. The Hawks dropped game one 9-1 and game two 5-0 at Southern Indiana. 

Game 1 
USI had four hits in the first inning which drove in four Screaming Eagles and QU trailed 4-0 after the first. USI extended its lead in the second with two more RBI knocks and held a 6-0 advantage after two innings. Quincy kept USI quite in the second and third, but USI had two more RBI knocks in the fourth inning and commanded a 9-0 advantage after four innings. The Hawks lone run came in the fifth inning when Madeline Ruzicka flied out to right field to drive in Casey Brennan. Quincy had its first hit in the fourth inning by Chelsea Hooker on a 0-2 single to right field, and Brennan had a triple in the fifth as the Hawks were just limited to three hits on the afternoon. 

Game 2 
The Hawks had two runners reach base in the first, but both were stranded in the first. USI notched two his, which included a two RBI double in the home half of the first and led 2-0 after one inning. Ashley Poore had a single up the middle in the second inning, but was left on base. The Hawks worked around a hit and an error in the next half inning and trailed 2-0 after two innings. Quincy added two more hits in the third, but couldn't scratch a run across. The Hawks then worked around another jam as they ended the third inning when the Screaming Eagles had the bases loaded. USI had two hits, highlighted by a two out, RBI double in the fourth inning which made the score 3-0. A Homerun by USI in the fifth inning extended their lead to 4-0, as the Hawks went down in order in the fourth and fifth innings. Quincy went down in order again in the sixth, and USI knocked an RBI single up the middle to hold a 5-0 lead which was the final score.
