Hawks Drop Weekend Finale at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Quincy University women's soccer team capped off its initial weekend of the season with a 1-0 loss at Lindenwood on Sunday (Feb. 28).

Sydney Gorman had control of the ball well outside the 18-yard box, and took a long shot that resulted in an easy save by the Lions keeper. This was one of two shots that the Hawks had in the first half of the game.

The Lions had a free kick 20 yards away from the goal that was blocked by QU's defense. The Lions retained the possession, and LU's Alaina White fired a strike from distance and Kindt made the stop.

Quincy had an opportunity in the 25th minute with a cross into the box, but Swanson collected the dangerous ball before the Hawks could make the back post run.

The Lions followed and played a ball forward to Maggie Weller who released toward the far end line, but then, Quincy kicked it out of play. Lindenwood then had a throw in on the near sideline in QU's defensive third. Weller had a touch toward the end line, and then crossed it toward the back post to Mia Corrigan who scored in the 26th minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. This was the last shot on frame of the contest for Lindenwood, but that is all the Lions needed.

The premier opportunity of the match came in the opening stages of the second half for the Hawks. Alaina Nasello received the ball after the Hawks won the possession in the midfield. Nasello dribbled the ball from the corner of the 18-yard box, and ripped a strike that hit the crossbar. LU's keeper then was able to fall on the ball after QU's midfielder created a very dangerous opportunity.

Later, Riley Hayes received a ball just outside the box in the 67th minute and fired a shot, but it hit the turf before it bounced into the hands of the Lions keeper.

This was the final shot QU got off as the Hawks were shutout for the second consecutive game, and were held to four shots on goal. Kindt made one save, and allowed one goal in her debut for the Hawks.

There were just six shots on goal during the game between the two teams, and only one corner kick. Quincy had won the previous three meetings against the Lions, and this is the third consecutive time this score has been 1-0 versus LU despite this result going in their favor this time.
