ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team had to wait 481 days to play in a game again, but today (Feb. 26), the Hawks began the 2021 spring season at Maryville University. Quincy fell 3-1 in the opener and registered just two shots on goal.
The Saints came out firing as they scored all three of their goals in the first 26 minutes of the game. The first two goals came in the first ten minutes of play.
With six minutes left in the first half,
Craig Chisholm fired one of Quincy's two shots at the Maryville keeper, but it was saved. QU went into halftime trailing 3-0.
In the 64th minute, the Hawks got on the board albeit in unconventional fashion. Maryville's center back misplayed a ball in the box, and it went into QU's net for the team's first goal of the season.
The rest of the way, QU tallied just three shots with one on goal by
Alsadiq Hasan, and the Hawks also accumulated three yellow cards in the final ten minutes.
Ultimately, Quincy was unable to notch another score and fell 3-1.
The men's team will be back on the pitch this Sunday (Feb. 28) to take on Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri at 2:30 p.m.
