QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team celebrated senior night before their contest with Southwest Baptist this evening (Feb. 25), and their lone senior player,
Tanner Stuckman, dropped 24 points in an 81-69 defeat. Stuckman and
Troy Potts were honored before Thursday's game for their numerous contributions to the Hawk basketball program.
Senior night began as a track meet between the Bearcats and Hawks with only one stoppage of play in the first nine minutes of the game. During that span, both teams combined for 50 points and were deadlocked in a 25-25 tie. Quincy came out by shooting 73% from the field after making 11 of their first 15 shots.
After the roaring start between both teams, SBU closed out the final eleven minutes on a 20-9 run.
Tanner Stuckman and
Paul Zilinskas scored all nine points for the Hawks as they trailed 45-34 at the halftime break.
Quincy tried to get back in the game in the first three minutes of the second half, but the Bearcats answered every QU bucket. With 17:03 left, the score was 53-42 favoring SBU.
As the next two minutes of the game clock ran off, Southwest Baptist scored nine unanswered to boost their lead to twenty points, 62-42. This swing was a crucial blow for QU's chances of mounting a comeback and was compounded by QU registering just five points in a seven-minute span.
The Hawks showed fight though in the last seven minutes of the game by outscoring the visitors 21-7. Stuckman knocked in three three-pointers during this late run with his final bucket coming at the three-minute mark of the game.
Ultimately, QU dropped the season finale to SBU 81-69.
Stuckman's Career
The Quincy native finished his decorated career with 1,275 career points, which is top-20 in QU history, and 495 rebounds.
