Hawks Gear Up For Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic This Weekend

QUINCY, IL---The Quincy University men's basketball team will host the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic this Saturday (Dec 18) and Sunday (Dec 19). The annual holiday classic features East-West University, Davenport, McKendree and the Quincy University Hawks.

Hawks
The Hawks (5-4) have won four of six home games to begin the season. They enter this weekend in the midst of a five-game regular season home stand. The Hawks are led by Ryan Hellenthal who is in his fifth season at the helm for QU. Quincy topped Iowa Wesleyan 99-51 on Wednesday (Dec 15) and Jalen Stamps provided a career-high 21 points, while the Hawks leading scorer Malik Hardmon (18.6 PPG, 4th GLVC) returned to the lineup and added 17 points in just 11 minutes of action after being sidelined for two regular season games.

Hardmon has shot 59% from the field this season which is the second best mark in the GLVC. The 6-6 transfer from Alcorn State also paces the league with 3.57 offensive rebounds per game. Hardmon has scored 23 or more points in four of his seven games played this season and has made 54 field goals on 92 attempts. The forward also is tied for the team lead with 6.3 rebounds per game.

Jamaurie Coakley has been facilitating the offense this season and is 5th in the GLVC with 4.0 assists per game. Transfer guard Nate Shockey is averaging 10.6 points per game. Adam Moore is averaging 9.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game with a 41% mark from 3-point range. Mark Bradshaw Jr. is adding 9.3 points per game and has made seven three-pointers over the last three games. Bradshaw had a career-high 25 points and went 10-20 from the field and 5-10 from 3-point range in the GLVC opener at Lindenwood when QU fell in overtime.

Quincy's 1.29 assist/turnover ratio is 3rd best in the GLVC. The Hawks have been disciplined while just committing 13.6 personal fouls per game which is fewest in the GLVC and 14th fewest in the NCAA. That discipline has also translated to taking care of the basketball as QU leads the GLVC and is 15th in the NCAA with just 10.0 turnovers per game. It is a great improvement from last season when QU averaged 14.4 turnovers per game, which was the most in the GLVC.

The Hawks has also improved on the defensive end allowing 70.2 points per game this season, and they average 76.3 points per game on offense. QU has done well in limiting their opponents on the perimeter, as they are 4th in the GLVC with a 32% 3-PT FG defense. They limited their most recent opponent Iowa Wesleyan to just 17% (5-29) from the perimeter on Wednesday (Dec 15).
