Norris Secures Bag with Season-Best 17 Kills, Hawks Advance To GLVC Semis

EAST PEORIA, IL---The Quincy Hawks squared off against Missouri S&T in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday (Nov 19) afternoon in the Eastside Centre for a second consecutive season.

QU was led by Mattison Norris with a season-best 17 kills on 45 total attacks, while Emily Rehagen had 14 kills on 29 attempts with a .379 attack percentage and added 15 digs.

"The entire team came out today and we wanted revenge from last year," Norris, who referenced QU's 3-0 loss against S&T in the GLVC Tournament last season, said.

Setter Makayla Knoblauch directed the offense with 40 assists (13.3 A/S). Knoblauch had 40 assists in the first meeting the Hawks had against the Miners earlier this season when QU topped S&T in three sets as well.

The Hawks earned a sweep over S&T for the second time this season as they won the match in three sets 25-23, 26-24, and 25-18.

Set 1
S&T took a 10-7 lead in the first set, but QU used a run to make it 17-16 after Sarah Brown had a kill setup by Makayla Knoblauch

Rehagen then had back to back service aces to make the score 20-18, and then Norris added a kill to give the Hawks a 22-19 lead.

Knoblauch then found Norris again to give QU set point at 24-21, and Rehagen finished the opening set with a kill as QU took the first set 25-23.

Set 2
The Miners led 22-16 and opened the second set on a strong run. Quincy responded with a 7-0 run capped off by two Norris kills to take a 23-22 lead in the frame.

Quincy then scored the final three points of the set and Norris finished the frame as QU took the second stanza 26-24.

Set 3
Quincy opened the third set with an 8-3 run. The Hawks then took a 17-11 lead behind back to back kills from GLVC Freshman of the year Emma Wijnbergen. Sarah Brown finished the game with a kill setup by Knoblauch and the Hawks took the third set 25-18 to advance.

Next
Quincy has won five games in a row and 11 of its past 13 games and will face the Lewis Flyers in the GLVC Semifinal Saturday (Nov 20) at 2:30 PM.

This was the first GLVC tournament victory for the Hawks in over a decade. The Hawks had the highest win percentage in program history at the NCAA level last season after going 15-7 (.682). This season, the Hawks (18-12) are one win shy of tying the most in NCAA history (QU had 19 wins in 98-99 and 07-08).
