QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University football team could not stop the aggressive offensive run game of the Indianapolis Greyhounds in a defeat Saturday afternoon (Oct. 23). The Hawks fell 70-21 at home.
The Hawks defense started off on the right foot as Cole Schnettgoecke forced a fumble, and Kenshawn Bragg took it to the house to put the Hawks up 7-0 in the first quarter. QU kept Indianapolis off the board for the entirety of the opening quarter.
The Greyhounds got going in the second quarter and scored their first touchdown with 9:46 left before the half. A little over a minute later, Quincy was forced to punt after a three-and-out. Indy blocked the punt and recovered the kick for a touchdown to take a 14-7 lead.
Quincy's offense got a jolt after Taylor Temple gashed UIndy with a 71-yard rush down the left sideline before he was tackled inside the 5-yard line. Three plays later, Tionne Harris found A.J. Hardin for a 7-yard touchdown pass. QU tied the game 14-14 with 7:13 left before halftime.
Indy proceeded to work a 10-play drive that lasted nearly five minutes of game clock and capped it off with a 1-yard punch in score. Quincy's offense got the ball back with 2:21 before the break but handed it right back to the Greyhounds after a quick three-and-out.
Indianapolis kept the ground game going and went ahead by two scores following a 9-yard run from Toriano Clinton. At halftime, Quincy trailed 28-14.
The Hawks were overpowered in the second half and were outscored 42-7. Angel Ruiz scored Quincy's lone second half touchdown with a spectacular diving, one-handed grab in the end zone.
The Greyhounds churned out 425 rushing yards on 60 total attempts and averaged 7.1 yards per carry in the contest.
QU fell by a final score of 70-21.
