Men's Soccer Ends Skid With 2-1 Victory Over Truman

KIRKSVILLE, MO. - The Quincy men's soccer team had gone their last four contests without a win, but that streak ended on Friday (Oct. 15) afternoon. QU traveled to Kirksville to face Truman State and walked out with a 2-1 victory.

Quincy took the first four shots of the game, two of which were on goal by Cole Hayes in the 5th minute. Ben Whitmore added another in the 9th minute, but the Bulldogs were able to make both stops.

QU got on the board first when Craig Chisholm played a ball to Jack Rhead, and he buried his shot in the lower center portion of the goal to give QU a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Truman State responded by equalizing the game just ten minutes later to make the score 1-1 in the 33rd minute.

The game stayed locked at 1-1 until late in the second half when Cole Hayes received a ball from Nick Chapman near midfield. Hayes scored the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute.

About three minutes later, Truman was booked on a red card and had to play the final 10 minutes of regulation a man down.

Quincy nearly added to its lead when Brandon O'Dell had a shot on goal in the 87th minute during a one-on-one with the keeper. Then Kamou Harris followed with a strike on the net in the 89th minute, but both attempts were saved.

Goalie Michele Barletta had a strong defense in front of him and played 90 minutes in between the pipes while surrendering one goal. Barletta did not make any saves during the game as Truman only notched one shot on goal. Quincy on the other hand had six shots on goal including two from Hayes.

Rhead leads the team with six goals, and Hayes has five. Both attackers now have a pair of game-winners on the season.

The Hawks have now topped the Bulldogs nine times in the past ten meetings. Today's result breaks a four-game winless streak for the Hawks, and they improve to 3-5-2 in GLVC play with four league games left in the regular season.

Next Up
Quincy will have a bye on Sunday, then return to Legends Stadium on Friday (Oct. 22) when they host Rockhurst at 7:30 PM CT. This is the final home weekend of the year for QU.
