Five Different Hawks Score In 5-1 Rout of Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. - The QU men's soccer team exploded for five goals in a commanding defeat of Rockhurst at Legends Stadium on Friday night (Oct. 22). Five different Hawks netted goals in the victory to put Quincy's record at 6-6-2 and 4-5-2 in the GLVC.

The Hawk offense converted the first goal of the contest in the 15th minute behind a well played run by Cole Hayes who managed to maneuver past Rockhurst's back line. Hayes fired a bullet to make it 1-0. Five minutes before the end of the first half, Ben Whitmore headed a goal kick over to Spencer Van Nest near the midfield and the senior defenseman played a ball up the field for Kamou Harris. Harris muscled his way through defenders and deposited Quincy's second goal of the game. QU headed to the second half with a 2-0 lead.

After the halftime break, Quincy kept their foot planted firmly on the gas pedal. Only two minutes after play resumed, Marcel Kaspar scored his first goal of the season on an assist from veteran Aubrey Reis. Alsadiq Hasan later broke through Rockhurst's defense and maneuvered a pass to Jack Rhead who finessed Quincy's fourth goal of the game in the 55th minute.

Bobby Nikolopoulos made his presence felt off the bench in the 73rd minute of play. Nikolopolous was fouled in the box less than 60 seconds after coming into the game, and he stepped up to the penalty stripe. The redshirt sophomore from Davenport, Iowa buried the shot for his first goal of the season and career. This gave Quincy a commanding 5-0 lead.

Rockhurst broke up the shutout with a last-second goal as time expired, but the Hawks walked away with the win.
