Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brendan Saak

Hawks Outpaced By Greyhounds on the Road

INDIANAPOLIS, In. – The Quincy University men's basketball team was able to get up more shots and shot nearly 50 percent in Saturday afternoon's GLVC tilt with the University of Indianapolis, but this was not enough as QU was unable to keep pace with the Greyhounds in an 86-78 defeat.

It took some time for Quincy to get going in their second matchup with Indianapolis this year. The Greyhounds held the Hawks scoreless for nearly the first three minutes of the game and Indy scored eight straight points to go up 8-0 early.

Nearly midway through the first half, Indy held a ten-point advantage over QU, 25-15. The deficit widened three minutes later as the hawks found themselves down 33-19 with 8:08 before halftime.

With 5:34 to go in the first, things looked to be slipping away after Indy pushed their lead to 41-23.

The Hawks charged back before heading to the locker room. Over the last five minutes, QU outscored Indianapolis, 22-9. Freshman Paul Zilinskas had eight of his 14 points during this span of the game.

Quincy trailed just 50-45 at the half.

After allowing the Greyhounds to make 64% of their field goals in the first twenty minutes, Quincy tried to limit Indy in the final twenty. For most of the second half they did that, as they allowed Indianapolis to make just 12 field goals and one three-pointer in the second half.

Charles Callier, who led the Hawks with 22 points, cut UIndy's lead to just three points with a jumper to make the score 54-51 Indianapolis. Quincy hung within ten points for almost the entire second half, but they could not get closer than three.

QU cut it to a one-possession game at both the 7:18 and 6:28 mark following a bucket from Callier and another by Jaylen Boyd, but down the stretch, Indy sank free throws.

The Greyhounds made 8-of-9 from the stripe in the final three minutes of the game and held on for an 86-78 victory over QU.
