ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team ended their season with a trip to St. Louis to battle Maryville University on Saturday (Feb. 29) afternoon. The Hawks trailed by just two at the half, but the Saints took control in the last two quarters to defeat QU 78-53.
How It Happened
1st Half
The Hawks stayed even with the eighth-ranked team in the GLVC through one quarter.
The score sat tied at 6-6 three minutes into the game, with contributions from
Laney Lantz,
Grace Schraufnagel, and
Alexa Low.
Jessica Merino later found Lantz for a three-pointer to put QU up 13-10 with 1:24 left in the opening quarter.
The Saints came right back with a three on the next possession to keep the score knotted at thirteen heading into the second period.
MU outscored the Hawks 16-14 in the next ten minutes to take a 29-27 lead into the break.
2nd Half
The home team opened the third quarter on an 18-8 run and never relinquished the lead.
The Saints shot 50% from the field in the quarter, while the Hawks shot just 29.4% and missed all five three-point attempts.
MU held a 53-39 lead after the third period and continued to build on their lead.
Quincy was unable to mount a comeback in the final ten minutes, falling by a final score of 78-53.
