Men's Basketball Ends Season On A High Note

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Quincy University men's basketball team finished the season with an 83-73 win over Maryville University on Saturday (Feb. 29) afternoon. Viktor Kovacevic scored a career-high 31 points to lead the way, while shooting 8-for-12 from three and also grabbing ten rebounds.

How It Happened
1st Half
The Saints jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first five minutes, but the Hawks answered right back.

QU went on a 6-0 run, fueled by two Charles Callier free throws and two buckets from Tanner Stuckman, to go ahead 8-7.

MU went back in front briefly, but Adam Moore later found Viktor Kovacevic for a three-pointer to retake the lead.

The two teams continued to battle over the next five minutes.

Neither team could grab more than a four-point lead until Ryan Briscoe and Kovacevic nailed back-to-back threes to put the Hawks up 27-18.

The home team caught fire in the last four minutes, outscoring Quincy 16-8.

QU held a slim 35-34 lead heading into the locker room.

2nd Half
MU hit the first bucket out of the break, but Quincy responded in a big way by shooting over 50% from behind the arc in the second half.

The Hawks proceeded to go on a 20-8 run to pull ahead 55-44. Charles Callier, Tanner Stuckman, and Viktor Kovacevic all drained three-pointers during the five-minute span.

QU continued to streak ahead when Kovacevic knocked down back-to-back-to-back triples to open up a 75-55 lead for the visiting team.

The Saints fought back and cut the lead to six, but Quincy's offense was too much to handle.

The Hawks went on to win 83-73 and finish the season with a .500 record.
