Martin Blanks UMSL In Baseball's First Home Game

QUINCY, Ill. – Senior left-handed pitcher Riley Martin has had plenty success in his career at QU Stadium, and Saturday (Feb. 29) was no different. The Salem product tossed eight innings of shut-out baseball with nine strikeouts and four walks as the Hawks won 8-0.

How It Happened
While the man on the mound slowed the Tritons offense for most of the game, Quincy's offense was able to get some runs early.

Dayson Croes scored on a wild pitch after he hit a triple in his first at-bat of the game. The Hawks led 1-0 after the first inning of play.

In the third inning, Zach Parks smacked a double to left field which allowed Nolan Snyder to score from second base. QU's lead moved to 2-0.

Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before Quincy struck again in the bottom of the sixth. Croes led off the inning with a double to left. Croes was then moved to third on a ground ball to second base off the bat of Lance Logsdon

Justin Eads scored Croes with a double of his own to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead after six innings.

The Hawk offense put up a crooked number in the bottom of the next frame.

Joe Roscetti led off with a single, and Jacob Kalusniak ripped a double to put men on second and third base with no outs. Roscetti was able to score after a ground out up the middle which made it a 4-0 game.

Nolan Wosman brought in Kalusniak with a RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0.

After a pitching change, Zach Parks loaded the bases with a single to right field. Designated hitter Lance Logsdon came through for QU with a two-RBI single to add more insurance and make the score 7-0.

The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-0, and Brandon Repking came in to close out the game in the ninth inning. Repking kept the shut-out intact as the Hawks took an 8-0 victory in the series opener.

Dayson Croes led QU at the plate with two extra-base hits and three runs scored.

Next Game
Quincy closes out the series tomorrow (March 1) with a doubleheader against the Tritons at noon and 3 p.m.
